Nuisance odors...
are one of the environmental issues that the public is
most concerned about. The media target odor-generating facilities
that have a problem with neighbors' complaints.
Economic losses
Utility operations, vital for the well-being
of the public and fully viable economically, are shut down
or lose their operating permit due to odor problems. This
is a loss not only to the corporation but also to the public
it serves.
Inability to measure odors
continuously
Until now, no one could measure or monitor odors continuously
over an entire site and its surroundings, in automatic mode.
None of the parties involved (the site operator, the supplier
or manufacturer of odor-suppressant chemicals, the neighbors
complaining about the odors) had the objective yardstick
required for rational dialog.
No objectivity
This led to intense but highly subjective arguments between
operators and neighbors, regarding nuisance odors.
